Day 1 Arrival Ambon
Arrive in Ambon today. Ambon is one of the most important city on one of the most famous island of the Moluccas. You will be picked up from the airport and transfer you the hotel. Ambon was previously an important trading place for the VOC, where most cloves were cultivated from the entire Indonesian archipelago. For the VOC, it was extremely important to maintain control over this lucrative trade. Around 1600, the castle of Verre was built as the first Dutch settlement.

In 1605, the Portuguese were expelled and Fort Victoria was built (now a military barrack). From 1611 to 1619, the first governor of Dutch East Indies, Pieter Both, was in Ambon. The VOC ruled with a hard hand and a few years later, this led to the Great Ambonese War. The uprising was dropped bloody and in the coming centuries the VOC had the ropes on the spice trade firmly in hand. This only took off when the French nutmeg began to grow in Mauritius at the end of the 18th century.
Day 2 Ambon, Bicycle excursion
After breakfast, you will be picked up by your guide to make a two-hour bike ride on Ambon countryside. You start at the Nusaniwe cape, where you have a beautiful view among the palm trees. Then you ride along Airlow (where bricks are baked for local houses) and a baileo (traditional community house, covered with sagu leaves) and the village of Seri. The bike ride ends at Pintu Kota, where you have a beautiful view again. From here you will be taken back to your hotel. In the afternoon, free program.

Once at the top, you have a beautiful panorama of the island of Ambon and Kota Ambon. Nearly you will visit Hukurilla, where you will see how sopi (local liquor) is made. Then you drive back and pass an old church, some traditional houses and the village of Waai. Here the inhabitants feed chicken eggs to holy palms! Also visit the village of Tengah-Tengah with once again beautiful vistas and the fishing village at Tial. You end up at Natsepa Beach. Enjoy a local rowing hay (or maybe a spicy fruit salad)?
